What is the challenge you’re trying to solve?
The inequality between people that comes with the sole fact of being born in different geographical location, and the lack of opportunities for growth both on intellectual and economical level that comes with that.
What are you doing to resolve this challenge?
With Origin Of Hearts, a social brand, I create sustainable economic opportunities for remote tribes and communities in third world countries who have no other, or little source of income by bringing to the rest of the world their unique handicrafts. When purchasing their designs our supporters are investing directly into the future of these communities, while helping preserve their cultural heritage.
How did you become who you are now?
I come from a long career in the fashion industry. The matrix of the dynamic corporate world made me search for an alternative reality. I found myself travelling to the most remote corners of the world discovering tribes and communities still living true to their ancestors’ ways and preserving their traditions, beliefs and aesthetics. Spending time with them and learning their ways became my passion and also my injection to keep me and my values sane in the hot pot of Western society. I have a lot of empathy by nature and a personal relationship with injustice, so change was inevitable. One day I stopped paying attention to my mind and understood what my heart had been trying to tell me all these years and then I found my mission.
How can people find and/or follow you?
I spend a big deal of time in Ubud and Barcelona and attend conscious events around the world, where the products can be seen and purchased at private sales, but I’m very excited to announce the launch of our own online store, which will give the opportunity to anyone around the world to purchase these beautiful designs and contribute to a better future of the tribes and their families.
Nat’s Note: I met Irina at La Finca - a conscious music, art and food festival in Barcelona. We immediately connected through our mutual lust for adventure and exploration especially with tribal communities around the world as well our similar paths of leaving the corporate fashion world and fulfilling our mission to make the world a better place. I wouldn’t be surprise if synchronicity will reunite us for a collaboration in the future!
